Hoyuru is a dog-spirit yokai working part-time at her friend's ice cream shop, tucked away in a hidden village deep in the mountains of Kochi. The last sanctuary where humans and yōkai can live together. A hidden village deep in the mountains of Kochi, Shikoku — Monobeno. As the nature of “fear” itself changes, this is the land where yōkai who are no longer feared by anyone, who have been forgotten and are on the verge of vanishing, gather together as if fleeing here for refuge. Behind this migration lies the truth that the local guardian deity, “Gokaiso-chan,” invites the yōkai in and supports their settlement there. Yuki, the Snow Lady yōkai of Hitoyoshi-Kuma, agonized endlessly over whether to accept this invitation, unable to move. Before Yuki could weaken so much that she could no longer move at all, it was Ingame who half-forcibly dragged her along and pushed her into moving to Monobeno. An “Ingame” is a girl possessed by an inugami, a dog-spirit. Once an ordinary human girl, she had the inugami — a possessing spirit — forced upon her. Yet over a long, long span of time, the two miraculously merged, giving rise to an unfortunate kind of yōkai born without anyone wishing for it or intending it. To Yuki she is an irreplaceable friend, but to humans she is just another yōkai, and to yōkai she is merely an extension of humans — so Ingame has never had many companions she could truly open her heart to. Just as Ingame had hoped, the move to Monobeno rescued Yuki from her dire situation, and she succeeded in laying the foundations of a new life. Ingame, however — nothing more than an uninvited guest — has struggled to fit into the village. Working part-time at Yuki's ice cream shop while continuing to strive to improve her living conditions — the one who appears before Yuki like this is you. Dragged in without question as temporary help to handle a group of customers, you earn Hoyuru's trust after weathering that crisis together. Bright, energetic, and caring for others — yet prone to neglecting herself — Hoyuru is a bit precarious. We hope you'll gently support her back with your own two hands. “No, no! I'm an Ingame — a dog-spirit, an inugami! I'm what's left after being possessed by that dog-spirit thing called an inugami and finally getting used to it, that's all! Even if it were strong, I'd think of it as a treat!” “…Um, you know? Mister — because you asked me — that's why, okay? I... I remembered. Ingame... I — long ago, I was an ordinary human — the daughter of a village headman. ...I had a name — Hoyuru — that was my name from when I was human.” …Inugami, kuda-gitsune, gedō — a cursed “possessing thing” known by many names. Pitifully set upon her, yet by some miracle she neither went mad nor died, and after a long, long span of time she was born anew, having finally “grown accustomed” to it — that is what an “Ingame” is. Having forgotten even her human name, Hoyuru, Ingame lived hidden away deep in the mountains of Kuma, on Mount Ichifusa. Before long, she gained an irreplaceable friend — Yuki, the Snow Lady, a yōkai who commands snow and ice. Yuki is gentle and deeply nurturing, but lacks initiative. Ingame is lively and caring, but rarely thinks ahead. Complementing each other perfectly, the two quickly became the best of friends, spending a long, long time together happily. But time is cruel. As the once greatly feared and revered “Snow Lady” came to be dismissed as a mere fictional being, Yuki grew weaker and weaker by the day. It was in the midst of this that the invitation to Monobeno arrived. Even though Yuki knew she had no choice but to go, she still couldn't move — so Ingame half-forcibly dragged her along and made her relocate to Monobeno. The result was a great success for Yuki. She was completely freed from the crisis of her own extinction. Ingame, on the other hand, found herself struggling in an unfamiliar land where she wasn't even welcome. Thanks to Yuki's best efforts to support her, she never had to worry about food, but still, she couldn't see any prospects for her future at all. “Something's gotta be done about this,” Ingame kept thinking — and then, out of nowhere, you appeared. The time spent talking and connecting with you opens the lid on the memories Ingame had shut away herself. Please gently wipe away and stay close to the wounds hidden behind Ingame's brightness and cheerfulness. That time together will surely give you, too, a healing beyond compare.

She has an extraordinarily keen sense of smell. Bright, energetic, and caring for others, she nonetheless tends to neglect herself and has a somewhat precarious side. After helping her best friend Yuki move to Monobeno, she struggles in the unfamiliar land while working part-time at Yuki's ice cream shop. Through her interactions with “you,” she gradually recovers the memories she had sealed away from when she was human — including her original name, Hoyuru.

I was looking forward to this ever since I heard it was a voice work by Amachi Haruka packed full of dialect, even before its release. This time she voices "Hoyuru" with an innocent, childlike voice that matches her appearance. Hoyuru herself has a cheerful, friendly personality, and thanks to Amachi-san's voice and the dialect, that personality comes through just the right amount, which is incredibly cute. Ways of calling out like "Ann, ne?" and "Soide ne?", or sentence endings like "...ken" and "...toyo," are simply irresistibly cute, so if you like dialects and their distinctive intonation, I highly recommend giving this a listen. From Track 3 onward, ASMR elements like laundry, brushing, and ear cleaning become more prominent, but what I thought was really great is how the voice actress's own voice is mixed in at just the right amount. Short breaths, or a slightly bashful little sound like "...fuhi"... on top of that, the Foley ambient sounds add even more, and I think the sense of immersion was quite something. At first I thought I'd like to hear a version without the ambient sounds, but since there are lines in the story that reference those very sounds, I feel like there's really no option to go without them if you want to fully immerse yourself in the situation. As you keep listening, after Hoyuru's own narration about her past, the way she sweetly and earnestly leans in and clings to you is also adorable. After hearing her narration, it all feels even more endearing. Also, her voice is on the higher side, but it's not overly sharp and stays soft, so it's comfortable to listen to even when drifting off to sleep—very much what you'd expect from Amachi-san. The "goodnight greeting" is way too cute, so it's a must-listen! I was also grateful there was a sleeping-breath track. And the interview talk at the end was also so very Amachi-san-like, super cute chatter (lol) This is the kind of work I want to listen to again and again.
You spend your days with the yokai "Ingame Hoyuru," voiced by Amachi Haruka. I'd only caught her name in passing elsewhere in the same series, so with her appearing in this work, I started listening excitedly, wondering what kind of character she'd turn out to be. From the promotional artwork, I imagined she'd be a bit cooler and more aloof, but she turned out to be a cheerful, gentle character, so while I felt a gap from my expectations, I thought she was a cute, wonderful character. Also, in this work too, you can enjoy the surrounding ambient sounds (like the sound of a river flowing). On top of that, it's content where you can simply enjoy the sound of ear cleaning, and in the end I found myself listening while thinking how pleasant the ear-cleaning sounds are. As my overall impressions, I'll list the following points. ●The dialect in this work was also pleasant to listen to ●The harmony between the ear cleaning and the sound of the flowing river heard in the background is healing ●The loneliness that peeks through as the flip side of Hoyuru's positivity gives a bittersweet feeling This time too, I fully enjoyed the world, the dialect, the ear cleaning, and the ambient sounds, and felt very healed. I love this series, so I bought it without hesitation. This time it's Hoyuru of the Ingame, who appeared in Yuki-chan (Lady Yuki)'s story. Since it's part of the Ayakashi Nostalgia Tales series, the ambient sounds are wonderful as always, and combined with the dialect, I think the healing effect is extremely high. Personally, I love the cute moment when Hoyuru-chan gets flustered during the brushing scene.
